Research Experiences Enrich Science Education and Contribute To a Skilled Workforce
The “Ecosystems and Society” project includes a substantive education and outreach effort with partners at Keene State College, White Mountains Community College, and Great Bay Community College. Teachers from K-12 schools and community college faculty and students will have opportunities to join the research teams. Teachers will be offered opportunities for professional development, research experiences, and support in developing collaborations leading to the sharing of resources for STEM education.

After-school programs on hydrological and winter snowpack measurement will be developed for middle school students through Cooperative Extension 4-H. Students from urban and rural schools will receive scholarships to science camp. College students from two-year and four-year colleges will have opportunities for internships for undergraduate research. For community college students, there will be transfer incentives to complete a four-year college degree.
To support the state’s high-tech economy, it is essential to retain our college graduates and prepare them for high-paying jobs in New Hampshire. Among our partners in the EPSCoR program is the non-profit organization Stay Work Play NH, which will coordinate challenge grants to companies to hire recent college graduates and help them repay their student loans. Stay Work Play also engages with the Young Professionals Networks in New Hampshire and is a partner in the development of an online internship matching service.
